Happy Journey Collective

The Happy Journey Collective is a fun project i heard about recently on Twitter - the idea being to showcase an ongoing selection of coffin artworks from artists and illustrators around the world.

Submissions are currently being invited, with just a template for the shape of the coffin given, and the brief... do whatever!

Thought I'd have a go. this is what i came up with.

Crash and burn? or number 07 flies you straight to heaven...

Escape

This is my submission for the forthcoming Ink-dot exhibition, which opens on 17th June in the upstairs gallery space at the Howies store on Queens Road, Bristol.

As with the previous Ink-dot shows, the idea is to show off the best design and illustration talent working and creating in Bristol.

The title and brief is 'Escape', artists are invited to submit work on this theme, sticking within a set colour palette of 6 colours, plus black and white.

Wouldn't it be great if instant escape was available at the mere press of a key......

Deadly is the Female

Slightly different theme and style for me... I was asked to work on a logo for a boutique selling everything a Pin Up could need... vintage style fashion, lingerie and accessories.

The new online boutique is currently under construction and will go live soon.

The dog belongs to the owner of the shop - he is a Hairless Chinese Crested called Gomez.

Bounce...

A set of 3 characters I designed for Gravity - a supremely creative, Bristol-based agency - who were working on some packaging options for a new brand of superfoods. These were to make up an illustration-based solution, with a concept of fun, energy & vitality.

In the end, the client went with one of their other nicely designed options. Oh well, was still fun to work on...

People I've never met, conversations I've never had...

This was my submission for an up-coming book from Nowbrow, on the theme "People I've never met, conversations I've never had". Artists/illustrators were invited to submit 2 images - 1 of a person you've never met and another of a conversation you've never had.

Amongst other things, I've never met a South American birdman (or any other nationality for that matter) and i've never spoken spanish to a houseplant.

Not surprisingly, from the masses of entries my work wasn't selected. It was still fun trying though, maybe next time....

All the other submissions can be seen here on flickr

Rosie's Armoire - Phase One

Trading as Rosie's Armoire, designer/maker Helen Ashworth has created a collection of contemporary textiles inspired by the contents of a vintage armoire -  assembled artwork and handmade items using a mix of stitch and print techniques. She has been exhibiting at trade shows and selling through various retail outlets but is soon to launch a new e-commerce site.

I was asked to design a new logo and business cards initially, and then carry this through to stickers which would be used for packaging, before moving on to design the website.

The business card uses the chosen logo, from a number of designs I created. The button icons are derived from a page of sketches i did initially, shown below.

bGorgeous website goes live!

I have recently designed the website for bGorgeous - a new creative hair and make-up service based in the South West, offering professional styling for weddings and special occasions.

The site was built by Laura James, a brilliant Bath-based Web Developer.

The website can be viewed here www.bgorgeousmakeup.com
